Under the No Surprises Health Service Act (effective January 2022), you have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" of expected costs for non-emergency services, including therapy. This applies if you don't have insurance or choose not to use it. Your therapist must provide this written estimate at least 1 business day before your first session, but you can request it even earlier. The estimate should include all related costs. If you receive a bill that's $400+ more than your estimate, you can dispute it. Remember to keep a copy of your Good Faith Estimate for your records.
